Born in 1944 native to Brazil, Sebastião eventually moved to France with his wife, pursued an early career in Economics which he later abandoned for photography. One of the most influential, controversial artists of his age, he spent a large amount of his career photographing social issues. After a more than admirable career traveling the world, he returned to Brazil with his family and began turning to lighter, non-tendentious subjects; mainly environmental.
